10 Best Superfood Ingredients for Skin

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Eat your vegetables. You are what you eat.

While these old adages may feel like clichés, there’s no denying the enduring relevance. Point being: Food fads may come and go, but fruits and vegetables continue to be the cornerstone of a healthy diet and lifestyle.

It’s no surprise, then, that the healthiest things to apply on our bodies are plant-based, too—and at Evereden, we’re proud that our plant-powered formulas are crafted from simple, natural ingredients.

Ahead, we’re sharing ten of our favorite superfood ingredients. Read on!

SUNFLOWER SEED OIL

Sunflower Seed Oil is our favorite ingredient, and it comes recommended by pediatric dermatologists and the World Health Organization - it’s a powerfully hydrating skin barrier protectant, and one of the most research-backed ingredients in skincare. Over time, the use of Sunflower Seed Oil not only moisturizes skin, but also strengthens the skin's barrier protection capabilities. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has even explored the use of Sunflower Seed Oil to reduce serious infections in babies in developing countries. You can easily incorporate cold-pressed sunflower seed oil into your routine with our lightweight, moisturizing Soothing Baby Massage Oil (great for mom and baby alike!) and Multi-Purpose Healing Balm

KAKADU PLUM

Say what?! Although you may have never heard of it before, the Kakadu Plum is a superfood not to be reckoned with. This unique, sour fruit is native to Australia; it’s also one of the most vitamin C-rich foods on earth, containing 55x more vitamin C than oranges. Given its abundance of vitamin C—a skincare ingredient that is essential in treating and preventing photoaging—Kakadu plum is our top choice for remedying the signs of UV damage. Kakadu Plum is found in many Evereden products, including our Baby Moisturizing LotionBaby Shampoo & Body Wash, Soothing Diaper Rash Cream, and Premium Mineral Sunscreen.

AVOCADO OIL

As a food, avocados are an undisputed wellness darling, thanks, in part, to their abundance of omega-3 fatty acids. When applied topically, this fruit’s oil is equally as beneficial, infusing the skin with vital moisture, thanks to the abundance of skin-nourishing vitamin E. Furthermore, research has also shown that avocado oil can increase all-important collagen synthesis, as well as provide anti-inflammatory protection. Find this superfood in our Baby Moisturizing Lotion, Baby Shampoo & Body Wash, and Lifting & Firming Lotion

GRAPESEED OIL

Grapeseed oil is derived from—you guessed it—the seeds of grapes, which means it is loaded in flavonoids, phenolic acids, tannins, and stilbenes. These phytonutrients are known for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, thus helping to neutralize free radicals as and alleviate the damaging effects of UV rays. Grapeseed Oil is found in many Evereden products, including our Nourishing Stretch Mark Cream, Soothing Belly MaskLifting & Firming LotionSoothing Diaper Rash Cream, and Premium Mineral Sunscreen

SEAWEED

Marine magic, anyone? Look no further than seaweed—a standout sea-dweller known for its high concentration of essential minerals like iron, calcium, magnesium and iodine. When applied topically to the skin, different varietals of seaweed have been shown to provide anti-aging, anti-inflammatory and free radical-fighting action. Furthermore, we love seaweed for its sustainability, which can be a concern when sourcing plant-based ingredients for skincare.  Find this superfood in our Lifting & Firming Lotion

ROSEHIP SEED OIL

Beautifully delicate and delightfully lightweight, rosehip seed oil is a wonderful ingredient that soaks into the skin effortlessly and easily. Similar to sunflower seed oil, rosehip seed oil contains high levels of linoleic acid, making it a great emollient for sensitive and oil-prone skin. Research also notes that rosehip seed oil can provide anti-inflammatory and protective action. Find this nutrient-dense botanical in our Nourishing Stretch Mark Cream,  Multi-Purpose Healing Balm, Soothing Belly Mask, and Lifting & Firming Lotion

MANGO BUTTER

Derived from the mango fruit’s nutty kernel, mango butter is a decadent, supple and deeply moisturizing natural emollient. Loaded in vitamins A and E—the former of which is also known as “retinol,” a star skincare ingredient that has anti-aging properties—mango butter is an excellent source of essential fatty acids, making it an ideal base for a moisturizer or a cream.  Find this great superfood in our Nourishing Stretch Mark Cream and Lifting & Firming Lotion

GREEN TEA EXTRACT

Similar to grapeseed oil, green tea is brimming with micronutrients called polyphenols, which are loaded with powerful antioxidants. When applied on the skin, green tea extract provides inflammation and free radical protection, reducing redness, counteracting swelling and reducing irritation. As such, it’s a fantastic ingredient for targeting puffy eyes and dark circles. Green Tea Extract is found in our Premium Mineral Sunscreen and is perfect for the entire family.

COCONUT OIL

Coconut oil is a prized wellness ingredient, found in everything from smoothies to moisturizers. When it comes to skincare, coconut oil is noteworthy for its abundant amount of lauric acid, which can provide antimicrobial action to treat bacteria-based issues like acne. Furthermore, its luscious and rich texture offers serious moisturizing benefits.

JOJOBA OIL

Gorgeously golden, slightly nutty-smelling and silky-smooth, jojoba oil is derived from the seeds of the jojoba plant, a shrub native to the American Southwest. Interestingly, the chemical composition of jojoba oil is quite similar to that of our skin’s our natural lipid barrier, so it can help regulate sebum productive. Explained differently, if your skin is producing too much oil—which can lead to issues like clogged pores—applying jojoba oil can assist in regulating production by signaling skin to stop.
